LIKE OK I’M WHITE SO I’M SURE THIS DOESN’T AFFECT ME NEARLY AS MUCH AS IT AFFECTS PEOPLE OF COLOR AND MAYBE I SHOULD BE MENTIONING HOW NOBODY ON TV IS DISABLED EITHER

BUT LIKE

I GREW UP IN NEW YORK CITY AND MORE OFTEN THAN NOT I WAS THE ONLY WHITE PERSON IN A GIVEN SUBWAY CAR OR A GIVEN BUS OR A GIVEN SEVERAL BLOCKS

IF I HAD TO ESTIMATE THE PROBABILITY OF POINTING AT A RANDOM PERSON AND HAVING THEM BE WHITE, I WOULD SAY ROUGHLY 1 IN 4

ONE. IN. FOUR. AND I KNOW NOT EVERYWHERE IS AS DIVERSE AS NYC, BUT ALL THE TV IS SET IN BIG COSMOPOLITAN CITIES ANYWAY!!!

AND I’M JUST RLY CONFUSED BECAUSE THIS TV PHENOMENON IS JUST DOWNRIGHT UNREALISTIC OH MY GOD

UGH THIS BOTHERS ME SO MUCH.

I’ve been guilty of writing mainly white characters in my stories all my life, so recently I’ve been making a conscious effort to change that. BUT IT’S STILL NOT ENOUGH, AND IT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH.

I really need to write some disabled characters, too. In my next story, I’ll do that, I think.
