Go on…

 dude fuck yeah

all I needed to hear in life

So I just finished episode 6.13 of Xena and it was just like the t’hy’la footnote in the Star Trek: The Motion Picture novelization asdjfhaksdj

It directly addressed the “are Xena and Gabrielle lovers?” question in a way that was obvious that it was directed at the viewers (the question was asked by an interviewer, even), while still leaving the answer ambiguous.

Because the “camera” started having technical problems just as Xena and Gabrielle decided to give the truth.

But seriously.

If you like Kirk/Spock, or femslash, or Kirk/Spock and femslash, then Xena/Gabrielle is another ship for you. AND IT IS SO CANON. THEY. ARE. SOULMATES. LITERALLY.

So I watched a few more Xena episodes with my brother today, and season six seems to have DIALED UP THE LESBIAN SUBTEXT EVEN MORE, ASJDSDHKJA, AND I AM SHIPPING LIKE BURNING

anyways, I got a brilliant idea for a fanfic.

This show loves to play with mythology (from Greek to Roman to Judeo-Christian), and it always ends up changing things from the original mythological canon. So how about Iphis and Ianthe?

How about Xena and/or Gabrielle meet Iphis, and learn of her dilemma? But instead of Isis turning Iphis into a boy so that she could be with her beloved, Xena and Gabrielle convince her out of it? Or they set Iphis and Ianthe up so that Iphis learns that Ianthe loves her anyways, despite them both being girls?

AFTER I FINISH THIS SHOW, I WILL WRITE THIS FANFIC BECAUSE OMG IT CAN BE A XENA/GABRIELLE FIC AND AN IPHIS/IANTHE FIX-IT FIC AT THE SAME TIME.

Satan by Gustave Doré in Paradise Lost.

OKAY SO I (FINALLY!) GOT MY BROTHER TO WATCH SOME MORE XENA WITH ME AND AND

I SWEAR I’VE SEEN THIS PLOTLINE BEFORE.

  • There is a child born unnaturally to the titular character
  • And it’s the object of a prophecy
  • And it’s hunted by all sorts of people
  • And it has to be protected by its adopted family and its single biological parent
  • But then the child is taken forcibly from its family
  • And years pass to the child while very little time passes for the family
  • Then they meet again
  • And the child did not grow up as planned
  • And it doesn’t listen to the family

Somewhere out there, there must be someone who has shipped Connor and Eve.

Biologically impossibly born children of a prophecy who are aged suddenly (to the parents) and who then behave badly and kill and/or maim people and things.

I would really enjoy a movie about girls who wear armor and kiss each other

Is that so much to ask

SPEAKING OF ANGEL

I’m about halfway through season three right now, and I think the show has just hit the point where I’m neglecting tumblr (and to some extent, my schoolwork) in order to watch multiple episodes a day, SO YEAH, I’M STARTING TO REALLY LIKE THIS SHOW.

The funny thing is, Connor’s birth and everything surrounding that is almost exactly like the storyline where I’m at in Xena, with Eve.

Including the prophecy child who came from an unusual pregnancy and who is wanted by loads of different people and groups for different reasons, most of whom are trying to kill him (in Connor’s case) or her (in Eve’s case).

But, like how it is in Xena, I’m really enjoying the raising of the resulting child by Connor’s unusual family. And I think I may be shipping Cordelia/Angel a little. And Fred/Wesley/Gunn. BECAUSE WHO SAYS THAT IT HAS TO BE ONE OR THE OTHER? THREESOMES ARE THE ANSWER TO MOST LOVE TRIANGLES.

And some part of me is just wanting more of the platonic Connor-has-six-parents family shenanigans.

THAT MOMENT WHEN ROBERTO ORCI, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF STAR TREK (2009), WAS ALSO THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF SIX XENA EPISODES.

TREK REALLY IS EVERYWHERE.

SADLY, IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE HE WAS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER IN ANY EPISODES WITH KARL URBAN IN THEM, THOUGH.

Day Twenty-Four: Favorite Female Romantic Relationship

THIS IS THE DIFFICULT ONE. I HAVE SO MANY FAVORITES.

BUT I’M GOING TO HAVE TO CHOOSE XENA/GABRIELLE BECAUSE I DON’T EVEN CARE IF IT’S NOT TECHNICALLY CANON.

THIS IS NOT A PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP. CHECK OUT THIS “”“SUBTEXT”“”:

I like a lot of things about their relationship. I’ve already mentioned a few of those reasons on a past day, one of which being that I like how their personalities and natures are practically opposites, but there’s a lot going for Xena and Gabrielle.

At the point I’m at in Xena, at the last few episodes of season four, Gabrielle has decided that she is not going to use violence again. I’m not quite sure I like this dynamic in their relationship as well as I did when Gabrielle fought alongside Xena. It makes them even more opposite, which is good in some ways, but it also takes away part of their symmetry.

The two of them are so obviously soulmates and my shipper heart loves it.

This is probably really cliché, but Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship, to me, seems to illustrate the power of being female. It isn’t in a way that puts femininity below masculinity, and it certainly doesn’t somehow “weaken” women, but it is there and I really appreciate it. Xena uses her femininity to seduce just as she uses her power to seduce. At the same time, Gabrielle uses her innocence. The show portrays both of these opposites as being okay. Gabrielle also retained her innocence and purity and her goodness after having sex, and they weren’t portrayed some elusive qualities that only virgins are allowed to have. Again, there is that beautiful symmetry in Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship.
